Course Review: Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates

8 May

I was fortunate enough to play the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates on a recent golf holiday to the UAE. While Golf Digest rates the Earth Course as number 3 behind Yas Links in Abu Dhabi and the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, for me, the Earth Course was number 1 on my list! (and yes, I’ve played the other two as well!)

The greens are very manicured coming in at around 12 to 12.5 on the stimp – this meant that I had three-putted 9 greens from within 20-25 feet but as frustrating as my putting was, the excellent condition of the greens meant that I could not get angry with the course.

The course itself is a very well laid out par 72 parkland type with 4 tee boxes: Championship, Tournament, Signature for men and a separate tee box for the ladies. The fairways are the most unique I’ve ever played on – it was no different to playing off very lush carpeting.  The bunkers are sandy and soft and exquisitely maintained.

The warm-up facilities are excellent (Titleist NXT Tours for range balls) and like most of the premier courses in the UAE, the golf carts come standard with GPS.

The signature Par 5 18th with a water feature down the middle of the fairway going all the way up to the green is preceded by an island green Par 3 17th – I can’t imagine many stunning and unique finishing holes out there!

The playing partner and I booked rounds at the course using www.bookyourgolf.net who were marginally cheaper than www.golfscape.com.

Cost wise (we played the course on the 30/04/2015 which was a Thursday) we paid £140.00 per player with their weekend (Friday and Saturday) rate being £173.00.

When in Dubai, I can’t recommend enough that  you play the Earth Course!
