The Lykia Links is hands down the best course in Belek! In fact, it is such a brilliant course, we ended up playing another 18 holes despite having a round of golf booked at the Carya Golf Club later that same day – this resulted in us playing 54 holes in one day (I’ll let that sink in…). Needless to say that the next day our bodies weren’t too impressed with our impulsive decision to play another 18 holes – still I’m glad that we did.
The Lykia Links is a beautiful links course situated on the gorgeous Mediterranean coast about a 20 minute drive from downtown Belek. It is a true Links course with winds coming in off the sea, large (ish) greens and undulating fairways. We played 18 holes in the morning and were the first off leading the field. We were left so impressed with the course that we went out again after lunch – this time with the afternoon breeze coming in off the Mediterranean, club selection was a little bit more trickier!
The fairways were in superb condition as were the greens. They rolled at a good pace and held the ball up in the morning (not so much in the afternoon as the sun dried them up). The green-side bunkers weren’t all that great but still nothing to really moan about. The layout of the course is good, it’s not very punishing and plays easy enough for a mid-handicapper to to post a really good score. There are a couple of lakes that can cost you a shot off the tee and some waste bunkers that are strategically placed but not too difficult to play out of.
We liked that the local pro, Aytekin “Tekin” Akyurek took the time out to come say hello to us on the course and have a bit of a chat – that was a nice touch. Aside from the putting green, we didn’t make much use of the warm up facilities or locker room, but it if the course is anything to go by, I am sure it is top drawer!
Having played the top 5 golf courses in Turkey, I firmly put the Lykia Links at No: 1. It is a must-play course while in Belek.
